At more than 60 years old, we are the longest Orchestra for young people in the Loughborough Area. We cater for a wide range of abilities. Our current members are between grade 1 and grade 7 standard. We have members from both primary and secondary schools. (Aged currently between 9 and 16 years old.)
The Area Orchestra is conducted by Steve Simpson, who has been with us since 2001.
Our accompaniment is also in the very experienced hands of Wendy Miller.
We rehearse in the Performing Arts Studio at Limehurst Academy, Loughborough every Wednesday between 4:00pm and 5:15pm (term time only). Young people wishing to join must be either a minimum of grade 1 (grade 2 for strings) or have been playing for more than a year, although this tends to be slightly longer for string players. Our members come from many primary and secondary schools across Loughborough and the surrounding villages.
If you are interested, fill in the contact us form below or turn up at our next rehearsal.
Relaunch / Open Rehearsal on Wednesday 26th October, we are holding a Relaunch event following a long period of closure and uncertainty during and following the Covid-19 pandemic. This will be an opportunity for any young person who would like to join the orchestra to come and have a go without making any formal commitment. The rehearsal starts at 4:00pm in the Performing Arts Studio at Limehurst Academy, Bridge Street, Loughborough. If you would like your child to take up this opportunity, please fill in the contact form stating their approximate grade, to ensure that we have in place the music to suit their needs.
